Ten-year-old Caitlin Smith has Autism, making her a bright and talented student but she struggles to relate to others and to show emotions. Normally, this would be okay because she had her older brother Devon. But Devon isn’t here anymore, not since the school shooting. Now it’s just her and her widower father, whom she struggles to communicate with, and her school counsellor, who is trying to teach her social skills. Slowly through the help of others and Caitlin’s own determination, she begins to work through the grief over the loss of her brother.
Through the first-person writing the reader is placed right into Caitlin’s head, giving an in-depth look into what is an otherwise invisible disability.
